Family and I are going on the Norwegian Epic ship for a week long cruise.

My husband paid for us all to go as a Christmas gift. The Epic is NCL's largest ship and has Las Vegas Style shows like Blue Man Group, Second City Comedy, Cirque Dreams and Howl at the Moon. If you are considering a cruise, it is a fun one! We liked it so much last year, we are going again now.

I will not have internet access to process orders until I get back. I don't get many, but don't want you to be dismayed, if you don't receive your order for a week!

Cricut Cake Test

I jumped on the bandwagon when I saw I could get a Cricut Cake for 49.00... Even better I got the holiday bundle which came with an extra Holiday Cakes cartridge and and APRON. I ordered from Creative Express and got it in just a few days. I think the price has gone up, but if you keep an eye on it, it will probably go down again.

So, because I only use my Cricut with Sure Cuts A Lot, and couldn't remember how to use the cartridge, I decided to do some test cuts with my regular cricut mat and card stock. To my surprise, it cut perfectly, with the blade set on Max.

To test the cake, I bought Wilton Sugar Sheets. They are in the Wilton section at Michaels, you can use the fifty percent off coupon this week, and get them for 2.00. I read online that you could put Crisco on the back of the plastic sheet or use attach the plastic on the back of the icing to a regular cricut mat. Not wanting to do more than test, and having no cake to put my cut outs on, I decided to go with the regular cricut mat. I set the blade to one less that max. This way it did a kiss cut(didn't cut through the plastic backing). It worked great. After I cut, I removed a square section around my design(to avoid messing up the unused sugar sheet). Then I weeded it like vinyl. It looks tlike it will be no problem to put on my cake. It isn't brittle. I put it back inside the pouch to keep it from drying out. I did make a layered design, and removed the first layer from the plastic backing and put it on top of the other shadow layer successfuly.

I've done cake decorating before, but ouly the kind where you use tips to make borders and flowers I've never worked with fondant. I'm not sure I will, since these sheets were so easy, so inexpensive and come in such great colors. Check it out!

You are going to need to watch it, to assemble this box. All I have done is make an svg file of the parts needed to assemble the box. That is so you don't have to measure and cut all those odd shaped pieces of card stock. There are four 12x12 mats of items to cut.

The first two mats are cut in the color of your box. It gives you the box and the drawers inside. The fold lines are dashed lines. The third and forth screens give you the embellishments for the sides and top of the box. It gives you a circle, in which you can stamp and image. I chose to cut out some snowflakes from the scal winter library built into scal and place them in the circle. You need strong glue(or scor tape...or I used my krylon sticker maker after I was halfway done). I like Aleene's quick dyr tacky glue for box construction. You can see some of my panels/embellishments are not sticking very well. That is where I used a glue stick.

I hope you will tackle this box now. There are some great examples in the tutorial. Enjoy!

By the way, I tested this in Sure Cuts A lot, sometimes mtc doesn not work right with the inkscape files. Eyeball and see if it looks right, before cutting.

This template makes a matchbox with a closure. Sort of a drawer within another box that closes.

There are 3 screens worth of things to cut. The first one is the drawer.Move mat left 12 inches. The second one is all the trim for the outside of the matchbox cover.move over another 12 inches(approximately..just look at your scal screen) The third screen is the matchbox cover. Dashed score lines show where to fold. For the drawer, glue the tabs inside the adjoining sides. You will need some kind of closure to hold box closed. I was going to use velcro dots.

Cut 3 6x6 inche squares, and fold diagonally. Overlap and glue together to make a triangle that stands up. Look at photo above. Add arms, glue on mitten hands, fold rectangle into book shape and attach.Add buttons.

Simple Card Stock Basket

You have seen many of these baskets online. Usually they come with lots of instructions about cutting squares, then cutting them into triangles, etc. I decided i would make a svg file to cut out the squares and triangles for you. You use two different papers.

Because it is difficult to cut a 12x12 paper on the cricut, you still need to make that part by hand. Using your score board, score your 12 by paper every 4 inches, both vertically and horizontally. you will have 9 squares on your paper. Fold on score lines. Then in each corner, score at 45 degrees, then fold.

Glue squares into each square on your paper, front and back. You don't need one in the middle. Glue triangles onto each triangle. Then punch hold in each corner of triangle. Thread ribbon through the holes and tighten, tie in bow. Or use a o ring to close basket by threading through holes. Then tie on small ribbons around ring, between holes. I added embellishments from my paper pack for a cute finished product.

This file had a square in it that wasn't supposed to be there and some of the heads were overlapping. Easy enough to fix in scal, but why should you have to. I just fixed it in inkscape and reposted the file. Please download it again!

Dancing Reindeer and Snowmen...

Last year I gave you dancing santa and reindeer. This year the santa, reindeer and snowmen are caroling.

I fixed the file and color separated it too. If you don't want all the people at once, you will have to delete their pieces. I did it on 3 separate 12x12 mats, all in one file. As I design in inkscape, I haven't figured out the scal layers yet.

New Haunted House for Sale..Just in time for Halloween

This haunted house can be made with a roof and closed windows, or with no roof and velum backed windows that you can put an electric candle inside. Either way it is a cut decoration. IT is cut from two 12 x 12 sheets of card stock. An 8.5x11 piece of gray cardstock, and a 4 x 12 piece of white card stock, a small piece of gold. It takes two cuts on the 12x24 mat. If you have 12x12 you will just have to load it in four times instead. It is simple to assemble.The finished house is about 9 inches tall and 7 inches wide. That is so it will cut out of the two pieces of black paper. There are bats, witches and ghosts to accent your spooky house, even trick or treaters on the front porch.

Baby Carriage Made of Diapers?!?

My daughter wanted to make a diaper cake. Looking online, we saw this idea, for making a baby carriage out of diapers and thought it was much cuter.

Our supplies:Dollar Tree
2 receiving blankets
burp cloth
bib
girl puppet

consignment store

fleece blanket
2 baby duck fleece feet pajamas
pair of booties
1/2 pack size 1 diapers(32)

2 inch wide ribbon
1/4 inch ribbon any color(doesn't show) used to tie the "wheels"

Make the wheels by rolling six diapers. Tie with 1/4 inch ribbon. Put wider ribbon around. We added the wheel hubcaps with the duckies that were cut on the cricut. We used scotch atg gun as the glue will come off the diaper if it sticks to it. We hot glued the wheels on top of the ribbon to a piece of cardboard 12 x 10. It was covered with pretty card stock.

We made the sides of the carriage from the two receiving blankets. Use safety pins to pin the blankets together end to end.(we had to add ours later) Put six diapers inside the blanket and fold it so it is a diapers width high.Fold the fleece blanket to the 12 inch length of the side of your carriage. Then roll it from each end towards the middle to make the inside of the carriage. We used atg gun on cardboard to kind of hold things together. Then put the wide ribbon around the outside of edge of the carriage. I put two open diapers inside the baby pajamas(with the duckies) and just kind of shaped it into the carriage bonnet. We put a matching pajamas on top of the fleece blanket. You can just tuck everything like the arms inside the fleece blanket. We made the pillow by wrapping a diaper with the burp cloth and topping it with a bib.
We added the puppet and the shoes for a final touch, though any stuffed toy would work.

Hope you like this better than the diaper cake! We sure thought it was cute.

Baby Dresser Side Step Card

I came across this pretty card today and thought I would try and make one on the Cricut. I'm not too keen about following all those measurements. Also I'm in a hotel room, so I don't have much to work with such as stamps or other decorations. I say again, it wasn't my idea, but I got it from the tuturial below. She made dresser cards for older kids too.

Side step dresser Tutorial

Sorry this photo is rotated. It came from my iphone and looks right in explorer, but when it imports it is rotated..lol

I had fun decorating my nursery. I made 3 of each drawer and glued them together to make the dresser doors stand out. The holes are already in the middle of the drawers, making it easy to poke a brad through. I used buttons for the dresser knobs on the girls room. Assemble your mobile and attach to the crib arm. Add paper strips to the base of the right side and to make wallpaper behind the crib. I added a small "mattress" strip of paper in the crib. I made a hanger for the clothing hanging on the crib in the boys room from a paper clip I had laying around. The card should fit in a standard card envelope.

The file is layed out for 12x24 mat. One mat of "white" stuff. I cut that first on 12x12 mat, moving it over to right a little. Then I move whole design to the left. Then other mat full of cuts is to the right and I center it at 6,6 in middle. Then put your four other colors around the middle of mat.

Scrapbook Page with Mini Books to Hold Additional Photos

as it gives a clear explanation of how make a mini book and attach it to your scrapbook page. Everything can be cut on a paper cutter, you don't really need the Cricut or electronic cover, unless you are going to to make a lot of these. I just cut a lot of squares and strips of paper.

One book has the word JAKE on it and the other one a lion. Here you can see the book on the right open. You can put 8 more pictures inside the book. That is 16 additional photos in two books. I didn't have any ribbon as I am working in a hotel room The books are supposed to close with a ribbon. I will just add it later.

Also saw something new at Michaels today, and it was on sale. These 24 sheet packs of Michaels brand paper(recollections) are normally priced 4.99 but on sale this week 3 for ten dollars. These were the baby packs as I am often making baby word books for friends to give as gifts and need some coordinating baby paper. I also bought some with tiny polka dots(like dotted swiss fabric). You might want to check it out! They are PAPER and not card stock, but it looks like it would cut fine on the Cricut or other machines as it is good quality.

Another shopping suggestion, check out Tuesday Morning. I bought these Best Occasions brand quick page pack paper for 1.99. I used it the other day to make my daughter a scrapbook from her Colorado pictures. With all the greens and blues in the background, her photos popped.I put together a beautiful scrapbook in about an hour. I just had to cut the corners of the photos to make them fit the printed frames. I added a few stickers, ribbons, and Cricut Word cutouts.

I also got this great making memories animal crachers jack page kit for 1.99. It came with 200 stickers and die cut stars. They had a box of coordinating animal cracker jack embellishments which had matching buttons, stars, and more stickers for 1.99 too. Unfortunately, my TM only had the blue color. I checked another TM and they didn't have any at all.

Oh and check out Ross...Got some other premade pages there called Frame a name papers made by K&Company for 3.99.

Sometimes I feel like making my own pages, but other times I am content to start with the premade page backgrounds and just add onto them. They are not just printed, but elements are embossed to make them look 3-d, just as if you had glued the layers on.

Multi_layer Scrapbook Page Part 2

What is under the flap? Lots more photos!

To make this layout we attached two 8x8 page protectors to the top of our 12x12 protector. We put it between the two layers of scrapbook paper and used an atg gun to securely attach the part of the page protector with holes in it that goes in the binder. We cut 8x8 squares from 12x12 paper. From the leftovers we cut 3.75x3.5 squares. We cropped our pictures to 3.5x3.5. This layout goes together very quickly. Attach the squares to the 8x8 paper and then attach your photos to the squares. Some squares we left solid and embellished with stickers or cricut cutouts. You can fit 32 pictures on the flaps if you use all of of the squares as is. Add that to the photos that go under and around the flaps, and you can document the whole first birthday party on one page, instead of the 8 it probably woud have taken.

Close To My Heart Flip Flaps are another great way to add extra photos, memorabilia and hidden journaling to your scrapbook layouts.These are great when you have a couple more photos to add but not enough to fill an entire page protector. They are page protectors in various sizes. Slide your photo or journaling into the pocket, attach with the adhesive strip, and you're done! It's a fun interactive element for your pages. (8 protectors: 4 – 6" x 12", 2 – 4" x 12", and 2 – 8" x 12"),with a strip of adhesive that lets you attach multiple photo sleeves to your page that can "flip" open. I am ordering some but haven't gotten them yet. If you know a ctmh sales person you might want to check them out. They are only 3.95 a pack. Their page protectors are a good value for a pack of 50 12x12 protectors for 22.95. I don't sell Close to My Heart myself, but I've been to a crop and seen their products. You might want to check them out.

Multi-layer Scrapbook Layouts

A friend was making scrapbooks for her grandchildren's first year. For the first grandson, she had 3 whole scrapbooks, each with added page protectors. You know how it is, the first day you end up with 100 pictures! I said have you ever seen multi-layer scrapbook layouts? We can make our own.

We cut the border off of a 12x12 page protector. We used clear scotch tape to tape it to another standard page protector. To make a strong hinge, you can put a piece on the inside too. If it is the length of the opening, you don't even notice it.

Now when you put our double page in the scrapbook, you see the folded over pages. You can unfold it and then there are two more pages. Do the same on the right, and you get a six page layout.

We made ours look like a baby's room. We put windows on the outside(Just an 8x8 piece of paper with 4 3.5 squares in it). When you open it up, you see a decorated nursury. We just put a wallpaper strip(cut a 12x12 piece of paper into a 5 x12 strip). Added a "chair rail". Then added some toys and furniture. All that is left now is to add baby's photos.

By the way, I bought the Lettering Delights cutting bundle for 49.00(MTC Cut Its Simple Shapes Super Bundle - SVG only ), and the toys came from there. I have already used several cuts and have had it less than 24 hours. ANother friend was making a cruise scrapbook, and we used several of the landmark cuts like the eiffel tower and the parthenon. I welded the word France to Eiffel Tower cut and it made a great embellishment.

The bib center, bow and book pages will be the color of the large piece with just a few holes in it. I didn't want you to have to piece all those tiny pieces(look around the eye lashes). So you have a black piece with a few openings in it, which is where the bib, book and bow show through.

Accordian Envelope Album/Card

This accordian envelope creation can be a card or an album....It depends on how many envelopes you put in the middle. You need to make the accordian piece longer if you are going to add more pages. One inch longer for each page. For a card you could put a different gift card in each pocket. For a teen "date night" card, maybe a movie gift card, gas card, restuarant card. Or just fill two of the pockets with a picture or message, and tuck your card in the last pocket.

For an album, you can decorate each envelope on the outside and both sides of the tabbed folder insert too.

The envelopes used are the "legal size" envelopes. The are 9.5 x 4.125 inches. You seal them and then cut them in half. Don't have an envelope? Just make your own pocket out of paper. The resulting size needs to be 4.75 x 4.125. You can just fold computer printer paper(cut it 9 x 4.75) fold at 4.125, then use extra to glue into a pocket shape. I kind of like the variety of having other colors of pockets, besides white.

The accordian piece should be scored across the shorter side (3 inches) every .5 inches and folded.

Here is how to assemble so that the accordian works correctly. I used a line of quick dry tacky glue but you could use the adhesive tape strips too.

I used the arrow to make a closure for the book. I wrapped the straps around and glued to the outside, leaving enough to tuck into the arrow closure. Really this went together quickly. Using double sided paper you just have to make two cuts from 12x12 paper. You will see first 12 inches of images. THen move over 12 inches to see second page of images(if you aren't using a 12x24 mat). I cut each from a different two sided paper. Then you can flip over the accents to get some in the alternate colors.

It was the quickest way to get embellishments.

Usually I would just look up the bible verses each time and type them in again. Recently I decided it would be great to have font with all the letters and verses in it. I made one, but it didn't "Print" correctly. Microsoft Word wasn't that flexible!

So I put all the letters of the alphabet is separate image files instead. To use, you would insert the image for each letter of the name in your Microsoft Word document. The font used is just Times New Roman Italic if you want the name at the top to be in the same font. I made multiple images for each letter, just in case your name has 3 t's in it or you are doing two children with duplicate letters in their names and want them to have different Bible verses.

The Cruise is Over

Fairy Cut Font

I've spent the week creating this Fairy Cuts font. I wanted a font that I could cut on my cricut that had fairies in it. When I couldn't find one, I decided to make my own. I made each letter with a fairy attached, then a separate fairy so you can cut it out in contrsting colors. This font would make a nice display in vinyl on a child's room wall. You can see I used it to make a scrapbook page here, featuring the Disney Fairies in photos with my niece, Lacey. You can double click on the photo to see it in more detail.

By the way, the little fairy accents came from Dollar Tree. Of course, when I went back they didn't have any more, even though I got them recently. You might check at your local Dollar Tree just in case. They were with the craft supplies, not the paper and teacher items.

I decided to put this font up for sale, with all proceeds going to the school where I volunteer.It is a school run by the justice department and the public school system for troubled and at risk teens. I will use the money to buy scrapping and other art supplies. For example, we once made t shirts with iron ons and fabric paint. The groups I work with keep changing, so the new group of girls would like to do that project too. No money to buy t shirts, unless I pay for them! I also bought them all scrapbooks recently. When this group moves on, I will have to buy the next group a set of scrapbooks too. It is really good therapy for the girls to do these art projects. They really seem to enjoy it and I enjoy seeing them grow and become more relaxed each time we meet. We have made cards, 3 d items like the haunted house, shoes and pursed. We are now working on scrapbooks, and have done numerouse cards. A couple of times my group helped with favors for one of the fundraising activities.

If we could get some money, I could set up a crafting center at the school, so other teachers could use the supplies with their group, to make cards, etc. I could leave some stamp pads, stamps, and paper, markers etc as a resource for them all to share.

Anyway, I think this is a great font. Since it is a font, it will be easy for you to use. Just INSTALL or open the font before opening your application. Then you can use it like any other font. Just type in the letter of the alphabet. Lower case letters get you the letter and the fairy connected. The upper case letter gets you just the fairy. On a printed project you can just type the word in twice(once in upper case and once in lower case) and then overlap the two words(Easy to do in inkscape, harder in a word processing program!!).

By the way, if you have some excess supplies, I welcome donations. Someone recently contacted me who was cleaning out their craft room, and asked if she could send me her extra stuff, I said SURE! Sometimes we move on from one craft like stamping to another one like scrapbooking and then to digital scrapbooking and end up with stuff we don't need. Shamrock Treat Boxes...reposted

One of my friends said the nurses are having a bake sale at the hospital on St. Patrick's Day. She asked if I could make some things to make her sale extra special.

I suggested these cupcake boxes and treat boxes. I said, a plain cupcake sells for fifty cents, but one in a festive box, 1.50!
I used some St. Patrick's day coordinating paper I have around the craft room ,and mixed the lids and bases for variety. These do require glue and I found some Super Tacky Alen's glue, perfect for getting the box sides to adhere quickly.
The shamrock cut in the top, provides a view of the beautiful cupcake inside.

The next treat box is easy to cut and asemble, as no glue is required. It is held together by the slits on the two ends, through which the box adornment is pushed.

These would be great for a brownie, two cookies, or an assortment of candy.

The Cancer Ribbon makes this a nice thing to decorate your seats at your next meeting and provide a little "thank you" to your workers. Fill this up with something special and they will be grateful to you for the nice gesture.

Basically you can change that treat box to have any shape as long as it will fit through the slot and lock the box.

UPDATE: AFTER MAKING SOME OF THESE BOXES, I DECIDED IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE AN INSERT WITH A HOLE IN IT THAT WOULD HOLD YOUR CUPCAKE STRAIGHT IN THE BOX. WHEN I MADE IT, AND PUT IT IN THE BOX, IT LOOKED GREAT, BUT I DECIDED THAT THE BOX MIGHT NOT BE BIG ENOUGH FOR THE BAKERY CUPCAKES WITH ALL THEIR ICING ON THE TOP. I'M SURE IT IS FINE FOR THE KIND YOU MAKE AT HOME, WHERE THE MUFFIN TINS SEEM TO BE SMALLER.

I DECIDED IT JUST WASN'T POSSIBLE TO MAKE A BIG ENOUGH BOX OUT OF A SINGLE 12X12 PIECE OF PAPER, SO I SEPARATED THE BOX BASE FROM THE LID AND INSERT. YOU CAN CUT TWO LIDS AND INSERTS FROM A 12X12 PAPER. THIS MAKES THE BOX ABOUT 2.5 INCHES TALL AND 3.5 INCHES SQUARE. THE FIRST FILE I COULD ONLY GET 2 INCHES TALL BY 3 INCHES SQUARE, AND GET IT TO CUT FROM 12X12 SHEET OF PAPER. I THINK YOU WOULD HAVE ROOM TO CUT OUT A CUPCAKE WRAPPER AT THE SAME TIME AS THE CUPCAKE BASE THOUGH.

Cinderella Page Layout

This page is perfect for those photos taken at Disney with the princesses. I have some of my niece, only they are at my mother's house. She printed them and forgot where she put them! At least, she got them out of the camera!

The svg file contains four mats full of things to be cut. The frist two I cut from black, they contain the frame with the coach and the castle, etc. Move the svg over approxiamately -24 inches, cut the bibbibobbidoo and I am a princess too frames, and the cinderella title and fairy god mothers clothes. The fairy god mother face, the circles and square frame outer layer are on the last "page"(-36 inches over).

I cut this out of glitter paper I bought at Target and it cut fine. My page is very sparkly. If I had chosen the paper first, I would have cut my black layer out of something else too. I just found the glitter paper while i was looking through my stash.

Today's Project...a New Font

I created and tested this font today. I'm thinking of putting it up to download for donations. I voluteer and do crafts/scrapbooking at a local school for at risk teenagers. I'd like to set up a crafting center at the school, so I could leave the supplies for all the teachers to use with the students. I can only work with one group of girls at the school each week. I hve been taking and bringing back all the supplies each week. I spend quite a bit of my own money. I bought them all 8x8 scrapbooks last week. I've been buying lots of stickers and scrapbook paper. They really seemed to enjoy the scrapbooking last week. They were very engrossed in the project. Some even managed to make a few cards! Now I just have to figure out how to do that!

Anyway, font is coming soon.

Anyone live in South Florida and have a Cricut? Do you use sure cuts a lot or make the cut? Would anyone be interested in getting together for a day of sharing ideas and files? I live in Boca Raton and have access to a nice community clubhouse where we could meet. If you might be interested, leave me a comment. My neighborhood is easy to find as it is right off Glades Rd(which is both a turnpike and I95 exit).

I attended a swarm once in Cocoa Beach, when I was visiing my mother. It was a lot of fun!

You can make this one large enough to be a card. I put three sizes of this flower in the file. There is one on the first page, two on the next. I cut the first one at max size. I put the smallest one in the middle of the card.

Lattice Type Flowers for your Scrapbook Pages or Cards

These flowers look like this when you cut them. What I like about them is that it is a single piece I have to keep track of. There are no individual petals to assemble later. You could cut out a bunch of these in different colors and fold them as needed.

Some of them look good backwards and frontwards giving you two different looks from the same cut.

This one I decided to fold back the petals a second time, to get the contrasting paper to show in the middle.

Fold on the dotted lines. Go in a clockwise direction and fold each down, so that the next petal overlaps, tucking the last one under the first. Add a button or dot in the middle for a cute 3 dimensional page or card adornment. For the Blue and white flowers I had sized the page so that 6 fit on the mat(about 8 inches). The polka dot ones are larger, 4 were cut from 12 inch paper.

Stamp Storage Find at Michael's

Yesterday I spent the day organizing my scrap supplies. Today I continue!

I went to buy some of the storage cubes for paper as they were on sale for 40% off.

While I was there I saw these photo boxes for .88 cents.

They are perfect for your photos of course, but also for othe small supplies, like STAMPS.

Yesterday I made paper trays that fit inside a zip lock bag(Mine had the flat bottom with an extra fold in it) to hold the stamps. While this worked, I had some stamps left over. Also they weren't as sturdy as I liked. These little boxes work great(though I would have a lot of little boxes to look through, so I may leave the ones in the trays as they are!).

Just thought I'd share what seems like a good deal.

My version you cut on the Cricut. It includes the score lines, so you can easily get the correct folds in the right place. It also cuts out the appropriate sized triangles and square. I used double sided paper from the k and company specialty paper pack.

Dowload Explosion card with no fold lines

I think the second one can be made larger....I don't think I resized it. It just cuts faster and once you make one, you may not need the dotted lines.

How it looks folded, before the triangles are added. Can you see tat the middle book section is folded the opposite of the first and last? The middle goes "out" toward the screen, the othe two are folded in.

Add triangles and squares and stamp messages.

I cut the book cover 3.5 x 3.75 inches using the paper cutter. I glued a ribbon inside the cover in the middle, then glued the folded up card, on top of the ribbon, letting the ribbon hang out on each side for closing.

People make these with photos in them too.

A search on the web for more explosion cards, came up with a different type of card at Michelle's Rubber Room Explosion Card Demo
Usually the instructions involve a lot of complicated folding and turning and more folding , but using the cricut I was able to come up with a prescored card that lets your card come up perfectly each time. To add to the explosion feel, I attache some dangling card stock embellishments, using a needle and thread. I also made a "spring" for my cake. You know how you used to fold straw wrappers, at right angles, left over right, left over right? It makes a good spring. It acts like a dimensional and now when you blow on the cake, if moves slightly.

If you have done this right, when the card is folded, it looks like a "house" shape. Attach the edges of the house with adhesive to the inside of your 4.25 x 5.5 card. When you open the card, the inside will seem to spring out from the card.(see the video)
